![]() ![]() RPGamer even had a review up, practically the day of release.īut what of those RPGamers who were on the fence? The ones who’d heard good things (or bad) about this title and are unsure about where to start, or whom to start with? To help, we have gathered a veritable Circle of SaGes, each tasked with taking one of SaGa Frontier‘s seven initial protagonists and explaining why (or why not) that character is a good one to start with. I dunno, I think all the effort to redo SaGa Frontier is better used for a new proper SaGa RPG no one experienced before.Almost a month has passed since the remaster of SaGa Frontier launched, and it’s safe to assume that anybody with a strong emotional connection to the original has long since bought it and probably finished at least one of the game’s scenarios. So yea their childish direction for the overall art direction ingame is what really harmed overall impact of games like SaGa Frontier games (though also, while Unlimited Saga have more proper proportions, that game had a different character designer, think it was Yusuke Naora, so the characters didnt look as appealing like Tomimi Kobayashi's designs.) and FFVII didnt have chibis at least during battle). FF ditched superdeformed after FFIX and didn't look back (even FFVIII went for more natural looking people instead of chibis. Superdeformed should have been left behind with the 16 bit era. and while Scarlet Grace is also somewhat superdeformed, it doesn't overdo it like Minstrel Song and SaGa Frontier games do (and SSG is enhanced by Tomimi Kobayashi character designs with tasteful art direction and modeling for the most part, through they shoulda went full natural with the proportions) Well the thing is, I disagree with their superdeformed direction for the series. Totally a pipe dream, but I would definitely mod it like crazy if given the opportunity because the battle system is so fun. It could be like an rpg maker if they released tools for it. could really flesh out the games in a dramatic way and the all over the place setting of saga frontier in particular naturally lends itself to a lot of potential creative license. Adding new characters, scenarios, skills, weapons, dialogue, etc. In addition, I've always thought this series would do great with mod support. The game is kind of notorious for its cut content, and polishing it up and fleshing it out could really breathe new life into the experience. I know this will never happen, but it would be cool. ![]() They could add in some of the cut content too. They probably lost all the 3d assets used to make the backgrounds (and some of the characters) anyway, so why not? The donkey Kong country-looking sprites and backgrounds look pretty dated, and SE has proven that they have no idea how to do an attractive upscale of their psx titles. If they just redrew everything in 2d it would look so much better. It would be cool to see SE put some work into touching it up and making the graphics fit better with the rest of the titles in the series. Pretty much the only thing that aged poorly about the game was the graphics (and its generally unfinished nature). I've also been replaying saga frontier with gameshark mods and was thinking: wouldn't it be awesome if the game was de-made? I've been playing romancing saga 2 remaster on the switch and loving it.
